Christ Hospital is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by The Leap Frog Hospital Recognition Program (LHRP) with the 2011 Leapfrog Group Award for Quality Care for its role in providing excellence in quality of care and services to the members of our community.
Approximately 400 people die every day because of a preventable hospital error – the equivalent of a jet crashing every day and killing all aboard. In response to this silent epidemic, more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals will now receive A, B, C, D or F Hospital Safety Scores based on patient safety via a first-of-its-kind initiative. A Blue Ribbon Panel of the nation’s top patient safety experts provided guidance to The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, to develop the Hospital Safety Score. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections.
The LHRP is designed to acknowledge hospitals that demonstrate excellence or improvements in the performance areas of patient safety, quality, and resource utilization. The LHRP’s value-based purchasing program uses the data captured in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey to evaluate hospital performance within the standardized, national measure set, composed of quality and resource utilization measures. These measures are weighted and rolled up into an overall value score which is used to determine recognition and rewards levels. The survey results for participating hospitals within the State of New Jersey are evaluated against the results from top-performing hospitals nationally.
