Christ Hospital
has earned the Joint Commission's
Gold Seal of Approval
As the premier hospital in Hudson County, Christ Hospital is dedicated to caring for and teaching people with diabetes about the importance of diet, exercise, oral medications and/or insulin play in maintaining good health.

At Christ Hospital, patients with diabetes are cared for by a team of medical specialists. In addition to the patient's private physician, some of the members of this team include: an endocrinologist (a physician who specializes in the treatment of diabetes), a certified diabetes nurse educator; registered dietitians, including dietitians who are certified diabetes educators, registered nurses with special training about diabetes, physical therapists; spiritual counselors, discharge planners and social workers. However, the most important member of this team is the patient.

In addition to receiving state-of-the art medical care, patients learn how to monitor their blood glucose, take hypoglycemic medication and/or insulin, and follow a meal plan for healthy eating. Patients are also taught how to exercise safely and be active, and receive special instructions on skin, foot, eye and dental care. Patients are instructed about reducing risks and finding ways to prevent future problems. A special patient education TV channel, dedicated to diabetes education, is also available.

In addition, outpatient nutrition counseling, educational seminars and lectures, displays and film fests are offered.
