Our new state-of-the-art maternity unit was dedicated on June 11, 2008, and its importance was far more significant than the ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the event. While the amenities of private rooms, baths and aesthetics rivaled that of a fine hotel, the five-star care is what is paramount to the team of physicians and the patients to whom they provide care.

Christ Hospital was ranked by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey in the top quartile for efficiency and quality in newborn care. This “Leapfrog” award is a nationally standardized way to assess the value of patient care by measuring performance along two dimensions — the quality of the care hospitals provide and how efficiently they deliver it. The Leapfrog methodology sets a high bar for hospital performance by using a rigorous test of excellence based on standardized performance measures developed by the Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and The Leapfrog Group.

Christ Hospital is also collaborating with the Greater New York Hospital Association on a perinatal safety initiative to insure the health, safety and well-being of our expectant mothers, new mothers, and their infants. Christ Hospital is the only facility in Hudson County to participate in this program.

The new maternity unit incorporates state-of-the-art technology to complement our quality and safety programs. Some of this technology include: central fetal monitoring with remote capabilities; electronic medical records; and anti-abduction security system. The new unit includes: 13 private rooms; 4 LDRs (labor, delivery and recovery) suites; two C-section operative areas; state-of-the-art antenatal testing unit (ATU); and a spacious newborn nursery. In addition, the hospital expanded its services to include perinatalogy. Provided services include: ultrasound; bio-physical profiles; non-stress tests (NST); amniocentesis and other related maternal diagnoses.
