Christ Hospital

Pastoral Care

A Tradition of Caring

Founded in 1872 by The Rev. Richard Mason Abercrombie, D.D., Episcopal Priest and Rector of St. Matthew’s Church, Jersey City, Christ Hospital has always had a spiritual foundation to its mission and ministry as a provider of quality healthcare to all in Hudson County. At Christ Hospital we recognize that spirituality is a key part of everyone’s overall health and wellbeing. That is why we have a dedicated staff of pastoral care givers that are here to ensure that your spirituality, whatever that may be, is nurtured while you are here. Please let one of our chaplains know if you have specific religious or spiritual needs while you are here. Specific prayer requests may be submitted by e-mailing pastoralcare@christhospital.org.

Our chaplains make rounds through the hospital from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. In addition, a chaplain will also be in the building on weekends and major holidays. If you would like to speak with a chaplain you may contact the hospital operator and have them page the chaplain, or you may contact the Pastoral Care Department at 201.795.8397.

Bishop Rath Chapel

The Bishop Rath Chapel

Christ Hospital’s beautiful chapel is located adjacent to the main entrance and is the heart of the hospital’s spiritual life. Regular worship services are conducted in the chapel throughout the week and special services are held for major feasts and observances. Patients may view all services in their rooms on channel 3. Contact the Pastoral Care Office for information on scheduled services.
