Christ Hospital Responds to Seasonal
and H1N1 Flu

At Christ Hospital, we are dedicated to caring for the communities we serve, just as we’ve done for nearly 140 years. As the provider of choice for many in Hudson County, our highly trained medical staff remains committed to working with municipal, state, and federal health authorities when public health issues arise.

Since news of the H1N1 virus surfaced, we’ve taken the following steps to ensure the safety of our patients, our staff, and our surrounding communities:

  • Daily contact with the Hudson County Regional Health Commission to help track and trace suspected cases in Hudson County.
  • Physicians and nurses knowledgeable about unusual infectious diseases.
  • Daily contact with the NJ Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the latest recommendations for prevention and treatment.
  • Careful screening of all patients coming into the hospital with respiratory problems.
  • Proven practices of precautions designed to prevent the spread of disease within the hospital.

The H1N1 virus is no more contagious than regular, seasonal flu.

Here are some simple steps that will help protect you, your family, and our patients this flu season:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then, throw the tissue in the trash after use. Also avoid touching your face to prevent germs from entering your body.
  • Wash your hands or using hand sanitizer frequently, and especially after coughing or sneezing.
  • Refrain from contact with others if you are sick or have any respiratory symptoms.
  • Avoid crowded areas and people display flu-like symptoms.
  • Stay home from work/school if you feel sick to prevent the spread to others.
  • To boost your immune system: Get a balanced diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein to boost your immune system; exercise regularly; try to get a full night’s sleep; and drink plenty of water.
  • Find healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety.
