Christ Hospital was founded in 1872 by Reverend Richard Mason Abercrombie and is affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese of Newark. The Hospital is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of the residents of Jersey City and surrounding communities. Providing quality care is the central focus of the Hospital. The Hospital is further committed to providing services that meet and exceed patient expectations, while continuing to maintain quality standards. This is accomplished by providing a comprehensive array of inpatient, outpatient, and community based services.
At a meeting of the Council of Christ Hospital held at Christ Hospital on Monday, December 15, 1890, which was properly called and duly constituted, and at which a quorum was present-
"On Motion duly seconded it was Resolved that the time has now come to establish a Training School of Nurses in Christ Hospital and having learned that the Medical Board have already approved of the same, the President is hereby requested to appoint two Members of the Council to cooperate with a similar number to be appointed by the Medical Board The same to constitute a Standing Committee with power to organize and maintain a Training School for Nurses in Christ Hospital. Chair appointed Mr. J. Hull Browning and Rev W. R. Jenney as such Committee for the Council."

The Beginning of the Christ Hospital School of Nursing.
The Christ Hospital School of Nursing has been affiliated with Christ Hospital since 1890 when it was founded by Sister Gertrude Amy Trufant of the Sisters of St. Margaret, an order of the Episcopal Church. For over one hundred years the accredited school has been preparing qualified applicants for the nursing profession.
 Christ Hospital is a 381 bed complex. An seven story tower building was opened in 1980 which houses an 18-bed bed critical care unit, seven surgical suites, and 280 medical-surgical beds. It also includes expanded diagnostic and laboratory facilities, and 24-hour emergency services. Other resources include mental health services, the Christ Hospital Home Health Care Agency, and a Senior Citizen Transport Service. The Hospital and School of Nursing together offer essential health care education and services the community.
Christ Hospital School of Nursing is a cooperative program with Hudson County Community College in Jersey City, where students take general education and related science courses. Upon graduation, the graduate receives a diploma in nursing and an Associate Degree in Science.
The Hudson County Community College was established in the spring of 1981. In 1999 the School of Nursing formed the cooperative program with the Hudson County Community College.
